A man described as a habitual thief from Gaichuru village Kakuzi sub-county Murang’a county has been ordered to pay a fine of Sh130,000 or in default serve a two-year jail sentence for theft.

Daniel Karachu, was convicted of three separate charges of stealing on different occasions.

In the first case, Karachu was charged breaking into Joseph Ndungu's home store and stealing a knapsack sprayer valued at Sh2,500.

He committed the offence in October this year when the accused broke into Ndung’u’s home store where he stole the sprayer.

The complainant later noticed that the sprayer was missing and reported the matter at Ithanga police station on the 16th of October this year.

In the second case, the suspect was charged with a similar offence committed on the 9th of October this year during which he stole a knapsack sprayer valued at Sh2,500 belonging to Elizabeth Syombua.

The accused was also charged separately with stealing three iron sheets valued at Sh2,250 belonging to Eunice Wambui Njogu on the 15th of October this year.

Since all the charges that the accused person faced in court are similar, the prosecution requested a severe punishment for the accused person saying it appears to be a habitual behavior practiced by the accused.

The accused pleaded guilty to all the charges before Magistrate Jackinda Renna who ordered him to pay a fine of Sh130,000 or failing which he will serve a jail sentence of two years in default.
