For the second day running, business activities in Homa Bay town have been disrupted by demonstrations.
The youths blocked Homa Bay – Rongo road with stones thus deterring vehicles from using the road. But police officers have put up a spirited fight to disperse the youths. Protestors and police engaged in a cat-and-mouse game in the town.
The police officers blocked the youth from entering the central business district of the town. They lobbed teargas into the youth who wanted to regroup. The protestors scampered for their safety.
The police dispersed the youth whenever they regrouped in attempts to enter the central business district.
Meanwhile, most businesses have remained closed in the town. The business community feared looting of their goods. Most schools within Homa Bay Township also remained closed for the second day running.
Mary Auma, a trader, said she feared opening her business in fear of looting. “I decided to close my business because criminals may take advantage of the demonstrations to loot my goods,” Auma said.
