Date for Kibaki's burial revealed

Former president Mwai Kibaki will be buried on Saturday, April 30, 2022, in Othaya, Nyeri County.
The announcement was made by Cabinet Secretary for Interior Fred Matiang'i, after the first meeting of members of Kibaki's National Funeral Steering Committee, on Saturday, April 23, 2022.
The CS said Kibaki's body will lie in state in the National Assembly buildings, Nairobi for three days, from Monday, April 25, 2022, to Wednesday, April 27, 2022.
Additionally, there will be a State funeral event for the late president at the Nyayo national stadium, on Friday, April 29, 2022, before he is buried a day later.
Kibaki served as Kenya's third president from 2002 to 2013. While announcing his demise on Friday, April 22, 2022, President Uhuru Kenya said the Country had lost an astute economist.
"H.E. Mwai Kibaki lived a dedicated life of public service. We salute a notable father figure in the chronicles of our Nation. A leader who strove so hard and accomplished so much for his country. A Nation he so deeply cherished and served with commitment and an unbending will to improve the lives of our people," he said.
"While Emilio Mwai Kibaki is no longer with us in body, his spirit, legacy, values and ideals live on in you and in the limitless ways that he made Kenya immeasurably better. Mwai Kibaki lives on in the hearts of millions of Kenyans, East Africans and Africans who benefited from his leadership admired his character, andwere inspired by his example. Mwai Kibaki lives on in our fond memories of his strength of will, charm, wit, and his passionate love of God, Family, Nation, and Humanity."
