The Dominican Republic has agreed to offer assistance to the proposed UN Security mission to Haiti that will be led by Kenya.

President William Ruto during a UNGA sideline meeting with the Dominican President Luis Abinader revealed that the North American country was willing to support Kenya's mission in Haiti to end Criminal gangs that have been surging in the country.

President Ruto further revealed that the Dominican Republic will establish a mission in Nairobi that will enforce the Collaboration.

"Kenya thanks the Dominican Republic for agreeing to offer assistance to the proposed UN Security Mission to Haiti that will be led by Kenya. Resolved to work together to bring peace and stability to Haiti. Grateful Dominican Republic will establish a mission in Nairobi." Ruto stated in his Twitter handle.

In July this year , Kenya said it was prepared to lead a “multinational force” in Haiti – provided the mission gets a mandate from the UN Security Council – to help train and assist the Haitian police to “restore normalcy” with the UN and US government backing Kenya's approach.

This was after calls for support by the Haitian Prime minister Ariel Henry to help set up specialized armed forces that would eradicated the criminal gang menace in the country.

Kenya's mission is pending approval by the United Nations Security council after concerns had been raised by Civil rights groups on risks of potential human rights violations owing to the massive reported cases of assault, torture and murder executed by the Kenyan policed during the Covid-19 containment period in Kenya .

However, US President joe Biden yesterday hailed President William Ruto for his willingness to send the Kenyan police in Haiti for the UN security mission. Biden also thanked Ruto for his willingness to serve as a UN lead National in its security mission.

"I thank President Ruto of Kenya, for his willingness to serve as a lead Nation of the UN back security support mission." Biden said.

Kenya's mission has also been welcomed by the Haitian Government and received support from the United Nations.

Ruto's meeting with Dominica's Abinader also saw the two countries sign cooperation Frameworks and an Agreement to strengthen bilateral relations, exchange specialists, researchers, professors, interns and institutional strengthening programmes as President Ruto stated.
