A pastor in Rarieda, Siaya County survived lynching by an irate mob after he allegedly confessed to killing an 8-year-old girl at Rambugu village in West Asembo location.
According to a report by
Citizen Digital, angry residents torched two houses and a church belonging to the pastor, since identified as Teddy Odire after he confessed to killing the young girl. She was reported missing on April 10, 2022.
Confirming the incident, West Asembo Chief Wycliff Odiango stated that the pastor lured the young girl from where she was playing with her siblings and made off to an unknown location.

After she failed to return home, her parents raised alarm and that is when it emerged that the pastor was the last person seen with her.
Odire was unreachable via phone prompting the chief and the girl's parents to physically track him. He, however, denied getting in contact with the girl.
The pastor went missing and then resurfaced on Thursday, after which he agreed to having come in contact with the young girl. He led the chief and the family to a room where he was holding her in Siaya Town but she was not there.
He was taken to Siaya Police Station and that is where he confessed to killing the young girl.
Odire was later transferred to Aram Police Station where he is being held as detectives conduct investigations into the matter to ascertain whether it is true the pastor had killed the girl since he is yet to disclose where he dumped the body.
Angry residents at the time, had torched his two houses and the church. A congregant who had attempted to calm down the crowd was also mobbed and his motorcycle torched.
