Buildings within the Central Business District (CBD) in Kisumu City are being painted with Lake Blue colours and stripes of white.
Speaking while launching the initiative in Kisumu on Thursday, April 14, 2022, Kisumu governor Anyang' Nyong'o said it is part of preparations for the 9th Africities Summit, which will be held in Kisumu City from 17th to 21st May 2022.
"We are expecting between 5,000 to 8,000 guests, so we must put our house in order. Like a family sprucing up its homestead ahead of an important visit by guests, we have taken the initiative to change the face of the city, especially the Central Business District (CBD)," said the County boss.

"We are re-painting the City. I am launching this project by painting a few houses with the preferred colours as part of the Africities preparedness. We have formally asked everyone owning a house in Kisumu CBD and the environs to paint them with Lake Blue colours and stripes of white," he added.
He said the move will not only improve the City’s aesthetics but will bring in uniformity, indicating that Cities that have initially taken that route are spectacularly beautiful.
"We have a tight deadline and I am appealing to the owners of the building to cooperate," he urged.
To make the exercise a success, he said his administration has initiated talks with the paint suppliers within the city, to provide a workable discount to the Kisumu City residents interested in purchasing paint and painting equipment.
Crown Paints is among entities that have accepted to partner with the County government in making the exercise a success.
