Duale calls Raila an 'exposed man desperate for power'
Defence Cabinet Secretary (CS) Aden Duale has called out Azimio leader Raila Odinga, for shifting goal posts, ahead of the expected bipartisan approach to issues raised by the opposition.
On Sunday, Odinga called off Azimio protests after President William Ruto suggested the route of a bipartisan Parliamantary resolution to a host of issues raised by Odinga, including lowering the cost of living and recruitment of new IEBC commissioners and chairperson.
However, on Tuesday, Odinga in a press conference seemed to shift goal posts from what led him to call off protests, in the first place. Odinga said the parliamentary process may not address their concerns.
He proposed formation of a team akin to the 2008 National Accord.
He threatened to call his supporters back to the streets, if the 'other side shows lack of seriousness.'
“We assure our people and Kenyans that our eyes are firmly on the ball, and reiterate that we shall go back to the people as the earliest sign of lack of seriousness by the other side,” said the ODM party leader.
Duale in his response to Odinga said his plan will not work.
"Raila Odinga is an exposed man desperate for power at whatever cost. How does he equate the current situation to the 2007/08 period and ask for power sharing under a National Accord arrangement?" paused the former Garissa Township MP.
"Mr Odinga you lost the election. Your demos have nothing to do with cost of living but a means to bulldoze your way to power. Trust me you will not succeed."
Odinga's fresh demands came shortly after President William Ruto on the first day of his visit to Rwanda, insisted there will be no handshake between him and the Azimio leader.
"There will be no handshake but there will be an engagement in parliament on the issues that have been raised. Those that parliament can resolve, they will resolve," said the Head of State.
Ruto said the offer he gave to the opposition is the resolution of issues through a bipartisan approach.
