Emkew FC crowned Champions in Elgeyo Marakwet Football Tournament

Emkew FC from Marakwet West Sub County are the new champions of the Gavana Wa Raia Football Tournament in Elgeyo Marakwet County.

The newly crowned team won the tournament after beating Kimuron FC from Keiyo North 2 goals to 1 in the finals held Sunday at the Iten sportsground.

Emkew FC walked away with Sh one million prize money while Kimuron FC who were the runners up took Sh500,000.

Masete FC from Marakwet East Sub County took the 3rd position after being beaten three goals to nil by Emkew FC in the semi-finals winning Sh250,000.

Kipsaina FC lost to Kimuron FC on a 5-1 penalty shoot-out after drawing 1-1 in the final match which attracted thousands of football fans from across the county and beyond.

The Tournament kicked off early last month at the divisional level with more than 206 teams running up for the prize money.

Governor Wisley Rotich said that he started the Gavana wa Raia Football Tournament in the county as a way to promote talents.

Rotich added that the county government will hold more tournaments every year to ensure that youth get opportunity to utilise their talent and also as a platform for talent scouting.

The event was graced by the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Infrastructure Kipchumba Murkomen, UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala and Senator William Kisang among other leaders from the region.
