EPRA reduces petrol price by Sh0.66
By Peter Ochieng
The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has set new fuel prices, which will be operational until 15th July, 2023.
According to the Authority, the price of a litre of super petrol has decreased by Sh0.66, a litre of diesel has gone down by Sh1.12 while the price of kerosene has increased by Sh0.35.
As such, a litre of super petrol will retail at Sh182.04, diesel Sh167.28 while kerosene will retail at Sh161.48 for the next one month.
"The prices are inclusive of the 8% Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2018, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2020 and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation as per Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020," said EPRA in a statement.
However, fuel prices are expected to go up by up to Sh10 per litre during the next review, if the finance bill, 2023 sails through the National Assembly.
The bill proposes a 16 VAT on petroleum products, up from the current 8 per cent.
On Wednesday, majority of the MPs voted in favour of the bill during the second reading.
Legislatures are expected to vote on each clause of the bill, during the third and final reading next week.
