Farmers urged to purchase subsidized fertilizer in Butere

Farmers in Butere Sub County have been advised to purchase subsidized fertilizer from the National Cereals and Produce Board depot (NCPB) in the area.

Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Hussein Hassan said the National Government had procured 50,000kg of maize to be used by farmers.

He said the subsidized fertilizer stored at Butere depot will increase yields and boost food security in the region.

“The subsidized fertilizer will improve food security. I urge farmers to purchase the funded fertilizer for higher yields,” he said.

The DCC said a 50kg bag of fertilizer which costs Sh 2500 is affordable and most farmers will be able to meet the expense of having it.

“The farmers have bought about 40,000 kg so far and more will be added to meet the demand sought by farmers,” said the DCC.

While speaking to KNA yesterday in his offices, He asked residents to take advantage of the ongoing rains to plant and cultivate their land for better harvest.

He called on more farmers to register for subsidized fertilizer and collect the commodity from the depot to boost harvest.   

“This is a strategic plan to eliminate food insecurity. We will ensure all farmers receive fertilizer in all locations in the area,” he said.

He called upon farmers to utilize the subsidized fertilizer availed at distribution points to boost harvests during the upcoming crop season and to adequately prepare themselves ahead of the El Niño rains.
