Campaign against gender based violence has been limited by lack of adequate resources making it difficult to raise awareness across Isiolo County.
The Director of the Gender Watch, a non-government organization operating in Isiolo County Ms. Grace Lorim said that the programme is currently covering only four Wards including Bulapesa, Burat, Ngaremara and Wabera instead of a total of 10 due to financial constraints.
“We really want to go to the other Wards like in Merti, Sericho, Kinna, Oldonyiro, Cherab and Charri so as to educate wananchi on the vice that is rampant in the villages,” she added.
She said that reporting cases of GBV in the county is 54 percent which is quite alarming compared to other regions of the country.
Ms. Lolim said that those faced with the gender violence should ensure they report their cases to various offices including the Police, Gender Watch, Children’s office and the data collected updated so that the concerted efforts could uplift the campaign to guarantee success.
She stated that together with the gender and equality commission, her organization would bring together women and girls and sensitize them on their rights and how to guard themselves from gender based violence.
“We are mostly teaching girls and women to know ways of protecting and fighting for their rights,” she said.
