Haaland hits fastest 50 of the Premier league as City, Liverpool share spoils

Manchester City and Liverpool shared the spoils after a 1-1 draw in a heavyweight Etihad encounter at the Etihad stadium on Saturday afternoon. 

A clinical pass from Nathan Ake enabled Erling Haaland to open the scoring on 27 minutes becoming the fastest player in the Premier league to hit 50 goals. 

Haaland smashed the milestone in just his 48th games, 17 less than former strike ace Andrew Cole. 

The match saw surging chances from both sides with Phil Foden and Darwin Nunez missing on close chances. 

Rodrigo fired in a fierce effort on 65 minutes, which deflected off substitute Ryan Gravenberch and went marginally wide. There were penalty calls for a handball but the referee waved away appeals to the frustration of the City players.

Moments later, there was more displeasure for the home side. Ruben Dias calmly slotted home at the back but, as he wheeled away to celebrate, the official ruled it out for an apparent Akanji foul on Alisson.

At the other end, Ederson did well to turn away Nunez’s shot on the turn as the Reds eyes an equaliser with 20 minutes remaining.

However, Trent Alexander Arnold prevented city from the 24th successive, record-equalling home win ,earning a point for the reds with a clinical, low finish in the 80th minute of the match. 

Both teams held up to the draw as City retains their top spot on the summit of the Premier league with 29 Points one more ahead of Liverpool with both teams having played 13 matches.

Meanwhile, Arsenal stand a chance to go on top of the summit if they find a victory in their visit to Brentford.
