I know why Raila lost presidential contest - Sabina Chege
By Peter Ochieng
Former Murang'a county women representative Sabina Wanjiru Chege now says she knows why Azimio La Umoja One Kenya leader, Raila Odinga lost the 2022 presidential contest.
Odinga got 6.9 million votes against president William Ruto's 7.1 in the August 9th, 2022 race to State House.
According to Chege, the opposition leader lost because of his choice of a running mate.
Raila Odinga settled on Narc Kenya Party leader Martha Wangari Karua as his running mate, in a calculated move aimed at attracting the support of women and Mt. Kenya voters.
Chege on Wednesday said Odinga would be president today, had he nominated her as his running mate.
"I did not vie because I wanted to fight for the party. Despite us being called names and being told to go sell Baba (Raila) which was very difficult, you saw me in the entire country. At some point, I was named among the potential presidential running mates. I wish they had given me that chance; we would have won," she claimed.
Chege did not vie for any political seat in 2022, having served as women representative for two terms, from 2013.
After the elections, she was handed a nomination seat by the Jubilee party.
"I earned this position, it was not a favour given to me. The only way I qualified is because of the elected members of the National Assembly. If it was not for them I would not have gotten this," she said of her nomination to Parliament.
She is one of the Jubilee legislatures aligned to president William Ruto's Kenya Kwanza administration, despite the former ruling party being a member of Azimio.
Having 'overthrown' retired president Uhuru Kenyatta from 'position of Jubilee party leader,' Chege says she will continue fighting for the 'soul and heart' of the political formation, despite a range of court cases.
