The National government should honor the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) as jointly signed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT).

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa said the agreement which was signed covers five years that is from 2021-2025.

“I urge the National Government to uphold the addendum agreement in good faith as jointly signed by KNUT and TSC,” he said.

He said trade unions are vital organs for advocating for the rights and interests of the workers.

The Governor spoke Saturday as he joined the Kakamega North Branch of KNUT for their special annual general meeting held at friend’s church, Malava Sub County.

“I urge the national government to uphold the addendum agreement to the 2021-2025 CBA as jointly signed by the TSC and the Union,” he said.

The governor added it is only fair that teachers are rewarded for the dedication and effort they invest in educating our children and hence enlightening society.

He also called on the Government to address the issue of poor staffing and improvement of school infrastructure, adding that the county government will double the school bursary to shillings 240 million in support of Education for bright but underprivileged students.

The function was attended by County officials led by the county Executive for Education Boniface Okoth, MCAs led by Minority leader David Ndakwa and KNUT second National woman representative Mercy Ndung’u, who represented the secretary general Collins Oyuu.
