Tharaka Nithi County Governor Onesmus Muthomi Njuki has said that the Mount Kenya region will not vote for former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in the upcoming poll.
Njuki says despite being endorsed for the top seat by President Uhuru Kenyatta, it will be hard for the vote-rich region to follow his political direction.
According to the governor, the region still loves Uhuru but the political direction he took was a mistake. He affirmed that the love of the Mount Kenya region can be rated by the fact that they passionately voted for him twice in 2017.

“We respect our president, we voted for him twice and if there is a place people came out in large numbers, especially in the repeat election is Tharaka Nithi where he registered a 78 per cent turn out,” said Governor Njuki.
“Even to date, we love the President but it is good to say the truth. When the king is naked tell him the truth so that he wears his clothes. Where he has told us to go, it will be hard for us to follow him,” he added.
The governor who has remained a loyal supporter of Deputy President William Ruto further insists that it is God that will make a choice of who the next leader is.
“We will not allow someone to pick a leader for us,” he noted, even as he called on their supporters to continue praying for them.
The Head of State has already declared his support for the ODM leader who is the Azimio l Umoja presidential aspirant.
In recent weeks, Uhuru has been stepping up efforts to reclaim back the Mount Kenya region, which as it is now, remains a stronghold of his Deputy William Ruto.
He is however hoping that with the rebrand of the Jubilee party, he will undo the inroads the DP has made in the region.
