By Joshua Cheloti The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition has finally agreed on the candidates it will be fielding in the top positions within Nairobi County. For the past few days, the coalition partners have been engaging each other, as they sought to reach a consensus on who to fly the gubernatorial ticket. A stalemate had been witnessed on the gubernatorial candidate, with Westlands Member of Parliament Tim Wanyonyi from ODM and Richard Ngatia of Jubilee insisting that they are in the race. This followed a late entry of former Nairobi deputy governor Polycarp Igathe in the race earlier this week. But following consultations, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga on Friday, April 22, 2022, announced that they had reached an agreement to have Igathe as the Azimio gubernatorial candidate. He will be deputized by former Kibwezi Member of Parliament Prof. Philip Kaloki. “We have had a meeting as the council of Azimio One Kenya coalition talking about our Nairobi team. There have been consultations going on for the last two days, and we’ve concluded and are ready to unveil team Nairobi,” the former Prime Minister said.   The Igathe-Kaloki team will now be facing off with the current Nairobi Senator Johnston Sakaja, who will be flying the Kenya Kwanza flag. Other individuals that were eying the gubernatorial ticket have stepped down. According to the ODM leader, Tim Wanyonyi who was seeking the party’s ticket for the seat will now be returning to defend his Westlands MP seat. In other seats, the Senate aspirant for the Azimio One Kenya coalition in Nairobi will be ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna while the current Woman Representative Esther Passaris will defend her seat on the coalition’s ticket. In the agreement reached, ODM will also be allocated the Speaker of the Nairobi County Assembly. “We will have candidates in all 17 constituencies, nominated by their respective parties and we will campaign as a team. With that the team is ready, and we’re sure they will bring victory to our party,” noted the ODM leader who is also the coalition’s presidential candidate.
