The Kenya Certificate for Primary Education (KCPE) and the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) examinations began smoothly on Monday in Kisii County.
At least 39,154 learners are expected to sit for KPSEA exams while another 44,211 candidates will sit for KCPE in the 998 designated examination centres in the county.
Speaking to the press after the distribution of the exams in Kisii town, Kisii Central Deputy County Commissioner, Wilberforce Kilonzo said they had issued day one examinations for class eight candidates and grade six pupils under the competency-based curriculum (CBC).
Kilonzo noted the exams will be conducted for three days and this would be the last year that KCPE will be examined.
He urged the parents and the examination officials to provide full support to the candidates adding that any candidate who was not registered for KCPE should proceed to their designated examination centres and sit for the exams.
This follows a directive from the Ministry of Education which noted that some of the candidates had not been registered for the national exams and directed that they proceed to sit for the same on the scheduled dates.
The DCC urged members of the community to provide a peaceful environment to the candidates saying that social gatherings should be conducted with minimal noise to help the candidates to concentrate.
He also encouraged the members of the community to report any kind of examination misconduct if noticed.
Other officers who were present during the brief were the Kisii Central Sub County Director of Education, Cyrus Juma and the Sub County Police Commander, Amos Ambasa among other officials from the Kenya National Examination Council.
