Kenya Airways has apologized to its customers following its big delays in its morning operations at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport early Thursday, September 26, 2024.

According to Kenya Airways , this coupled with the prolonged maintenance work on the fuel hydrants of the airport, disturbed refueling schedules for both domestic and international flights.

"Due to maintenance of the fuel hydrants that extended beyond the planned duration at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, we have experienced delays in our morning flight departures," the Kenya Airways statement read.

The airline confirmed that early morning departures were affected due to maintenance that took longer than initially anticipated.

However, by midday, most of the flight delays had flown out, and the situation was almost back to normal.

Kenya Airways assured that their teams were working around the clock to normalize both the departure and arrival schedules, reassuring passengers that indeed, they were doing all humanly possible in terms of limiting further disruptions.

Kenya Airways was not the only airline affected; Jambojet, a regional low-cost carrier, also faced disruptions, including canceling several flights to Mombasa.

The Kenya Airports Authority, KAA, did acknowledge the disruption in the supply of fuel, clarifying that it was later resolved that morning when normal operations resumed. The delays at the airport received attention with an unconfirmed possibility of shortage of jet fuel at the airport.

KAA, in conjunction with Kenya Airways and Jambojet, worked with the fuel suppliers to ensure refueling resumed, while KAA explained that the problem was totally related to maintenance and not a deficit of fuel.

These disruptions come after a tough period for Kenya Airways following the recent reporting of its losses due to strikes by workers in airports over concerns regarding the proposed leasing of JKIA operations to the Adani Group.

Although the airline is still grappling with its operational challenges, the commitment to excellent service for its customers is assured.

"We sincerely apologise to our customer for any inconvenience and assure you that we are doing our best to minimise the disruption," the statement read in part.

Those affected by delays were encouraged to contact the airline's customer service channels for further assistance.

"Affected customers can get in touch via +254711024747, Whatsapp +254705474747 or Email: customer.relations@kenya-airways.com or twitter @KQSupport for further assistance," statement read.
