Kiambu MCAs threaten to impeach Governor Wamatangi
By Robert Mutasi
Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) in Kiambu County are expressing their outrage and considering initiating impeachment proceedings against Governor Kimani Wamatangi.
The MCAs are voicing their dissatisfaction with what they perceive as Wamatangi's poor handling of county matters.
They have leveled accusations of autocracy, ineffective leadership, and incompetence in executing the county development plan against the governor.
During a press conference held at the County Assembly building on Tuesday morning, the MCAs alleged that the governor has become a solitary operator, incapable of collaborating with other leaders.
They also expressed their disappointment over the lack of involvement of key stakeholders in the county's decision-making processes.
They criticized the governor for his poor decision-making skills, particularly in the area of appointments.
They highlighted an instance where candidates shortlisted for positions a year ago have still not been appointed.
"The advert was done last year on October, the shortlisting was done and up to now, the members who have been shortlisted have not been appointed, one year down the line," MCAs addressed citing one of the governor's incompetencies.
The MCAs also pointed out instances of financial mismanagement and fraudulent practices in the distribution of jigs.
They claimed that while a jig costs 100 shillings in Naivasha, the paperwork shows a cost of 1000 shillings. They cited this discrepancy as an example of the mismanagement that occurred in April.
" There is a distribution of jigs, a jig goes for a 100 shilling in Naivasha but in papers it reads for a 1000 shillings. This is misdistribution that was happened earlier in April," they claimed.
The MCAs are calling on the Auditor-General to conduct a thorough audit of all procurement projects and programs in Kiambu County.
They also accused Wamatangi of failing to fully establish his government for efficient service delivery, even a year after taking office.
This, they believe, is the root cause of the ongoing disputes between the County Assembly and the Executive.
