A recent Audit by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission(NCIC) shows that members from the Kalenjin community have taken the majority of jobs in the counties.

During the report of the audit done on Friday by NCIC, the Kalenjins take the lions share in County staffing by a 15.83 percent of the total 184, 876 jobs in thr 47 counties.

Kikuyu community follows closely grabbing a giant percentage of 15.77 percent of the jobs while the Luhya community comes in third with 11.6 percent of the jobs in counties.

The Luo community comes fourth with (9.81 per cent), Kamba (8.88 per cent), Kisii (7.68 per cent), Meru (4.88 per cent) and Mijikenda (4.60 per cent).

The audit was carried out during the launch of the Ethnic and Diversity Audit Report for the County Public Service 2023 in pursuit to establish ethnic diversity compliance in counties.

NCIC says the study was conducted because Kenyans have suffered inequalities perpetuated by colonial masters and successive governments.

In terms of employment diversity, Marsabit County lead the way by hiring staffs from across diverse communities within the country.

The data revealed that only 13 out of 47 counties complied with Section 65(1)(e) of the County Government Act. This section emphasizes the importance of filling at least thirty percent of entry-level vacant posts with candidates from non-dominant ethnic communities.
