Kindiki: 60 Al-Shabaab militants killed in Lamu
By Peter Ochieng
Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki says 60 Al-Shabaab militants have been killed in Lamu county in the past 24 hours.
Kindiki said a multi-agency police operation resulted in the death of the militants, after they killed two people in Lamu, on Tuesday morning.
Ten others were injured after the militants attacked a vehicle near Nyongoro area, along Lamu-Garsen road.
The CS said 'all who attacked our people' have been neutralized.
“That operation has been going on since yesterday and I can report we have neutralized all those threats. All people who attacked our people yesterday have been neutralized."
“The agencies were nearby and the response was very fast. Unfortunately we ended up losing one person on the spot and the other died on the way to the hospital. The attackers were many and heavily armed. We neutralized all of them,” he added.
Kindiki said he is happy with security officers in as far as neutralizing the Al-Shabaab threat is concerned.
"I am happy to report that despite the few evil successes by terrorist we have neutralized thousands of threats. Many have not been reported because of nature of the operations. This are armed operations."
He said the government will continue playing it's role in assuring security of Kenyans.
