Former first lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta has weighed in on the frosty relationship between his son, president Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.
That the two are no longer pulling in the same direction has been an open secret, since the March 2018 handshake between president Kenyatta and ODM party leader Raila Odinga.
Addressing mourners at the burial of one of her relatives in Gatundu South, Kiambu county, on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, Mama Ngina Kenyatta said Uhuru and Ruto were close and working well, until the latter made a decision to focus on his presidential campaigns ahead of August 09, 2022 polls.

"He (Uhuru) didn’t have a problem with Ruto. But if your deputy shows you disrespect, would you really stick there? You will move on," she said as quoted by the Star.
He asked residents of Mt. Kenya to follow in Uhuru's footsteps, by supporting Odinga's presidential bid.
The head of state has declared his support for Odinga, despite initially promising to support Ruto's bid for the top seat.
Concerning those who have taken it upon themselves to abuse the president during political rallies, she said such leaders lack good morals.
“If you were not brought up being taught how to abuse others when growing up at home, even when you go to the public, you cannot be able to abuse others."
"So let me tell those who are going round abusing others, we will leave them alone if that is how they were taught to be abusive when they were growing up,” she added.
She urged Kenyans to hold together firmly; before, during and after the upcoming general elections.
