A Makueni court has sentenced a man to serve two years in prison for giving false information to the police.

The accused, Alphonse Otieno Okung who appeared before the chief Magistrate (CM) Peter Gesora had pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The court heard that Okung had given false information to Ferdinand Barasa a police officer on 30/05/2023 at Kathozweni Police station, where he claimed that he had been robbed of two mobile phones, Tecno Camon valued atSh15,000, Tecno Spark 5(Sh12,499) and Sh9,000 in cash.

Other documents allegedly stolen by Musau Muli and Joseph Nzioka who threatened to stab him using a knife included national identity card, Absa ATM card, two pairs of trousers valued at Sh5,000.

The court heard that the man is a repeat offender saying he had a criminal record of giving false information.

“You have been conning people but you do not know the right tactics to use. This court has found you guilty and has sentenced you to serve two years in prison,” said Gesora, while giving his ruling on Tuesday.
