Meru residents wake up to a rude shock after finding a dead man in River Kathita

Meru town residents woke up to a rude shock on Tuesday morning after a male's body was found floating in River Kathita which is within the town.

According to Imenti North Deputy Police Commander Samwel Okode, police were informed of the incident by Magundu sub-location assistant chief at around 10 am.

“Officers from the station, Deputy County Commissioner as well as officers of scenes of crime responded to process the scene. Upon arrival they found a male's body floating on water;” said Mr Okode.

He added that they consulted the Meru County fire rescue team who helped retrieve the body from the river.

Mr Okode further said that a National Identity Card was found in the pocket of the victim which identified him as Wilfred M’Ituirandu Kirimi who is approximately 40 years old and a resident of Kithangari in Imenti South sub county.

He further said that the body was removed to the Miathene hospital morgue for postmortem to determine whether the man fell into the river or was killed elsewhere and thrown there.
