Messi will be back, says Barcelona President

Argentina captain Lionel Andres Messi will be back at Barcelona soon, if all goes according to plan.

Barcelona President Joan Laporta on Sunday assured Barca fans that he is putting his best foot forward, in a bid to bring Messi back to the Camp Nou.

Messi, considered one of the best players in history of the game left the Spanish giants in 2021 for French Ligue 1 side PSG.

The 2022 World Cup winner with Argentina left after financial difficulties made it impossible for him to be handed a new contract at Barcelona.

Laporta said the plan is to bring Leo back, ahead of the 2023/2024 season.

“We will do everything we can to bring Leo Messi back to Barcelona," he said.

"We are working on viability plan to do our stuff with Financial Fair Play as we plan to make a stronger team."

"Messi? He’s a very good friend of many guys who are celebrating La Liga today… I’m sure he is so happy! I would love Messi to come back," added Barca Vice President, Rafa Yuste.

Messi's contract with PSG ends this summer.

Barcelona under stewardship of Xavi Hernandez won the 2022/2023 La Liga title after thrashing City rivals, Espanyol 4-1, on Sunday.

It is the first Liga title for Xavi as Barca manager, and the 27th in Barcelona's history.

While celebrating the title win, Barcelona fans were heard chanting Messi's name.
