Shinyalu Member of Parliament Fred Ikana has promised to provide food to all candidates in his constituency who will be writing the 2023 National exams.
The MP said every secondary, primary, and Junior Secondary school will get bags of rice and beans to be used to feed candidates during the examination period.
He said the move is meant to cushion parents from the burden of sourcing funds to provide food for their children who will be sitting for the exams.
He noted that Shinyalu has over 100 public primary schools and over 50 public secondary schools which will benefit from the feeding program.
In addition, the MP said all Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidates in the constituency will receive a mathematical geometrical set for free.
The Geometric sets will be issued to candidates through the head teachers as he urged them to utilize the opportunity to perform well in their national exams.
He was speaking at St. Gerald Shanjero secondary school when he launched the feeding program, where he urged students and youth from the constituency to shun drug abuse and alcoholism which could destroy their future.
The MP also asked the national government administrators to minimize using excessive force when dealing with the youth and instead use alternative means to instill discipline and correct them.
At the same time, the MP handed over bursary cheques worth Sh3 Million to principals of 20 schools in Shinyalu to cater for fees of form ones who missed the first disbursement.
