Murang'a Governor Irungu Kang’ata has directed all medical superintendents working in the local health facilities to step down as he moves to reorganize his administration.
Speaking at the county headquarters, the governor said that the Chief Officer in charge of Health will issue a notice inviting applications for doctors interested to act as medical superintendents in the respective hospitals as those currently in office should step down with effect from September 7, 2023.
The governor further said that future deployment of medical superintendents shall be subject to a suitability test to be conducted internally by a committee in consultation with the Office of the County Secretary and the County Executive Committee (CEC) member in charge of health.
“The successful candidate will serve for a one-year renewable term and at the renewal stage, a client satisfaction survey will be conducted to determine the necessity of renewal,” Kang’ata said.
In order to address the various concerns in the health sector including persistent complaints of lack of medicine, the county decided to hasten the health system automation agenda.
“The CEC Health and all senior health officers have one month from today to automate all 157 medical facilities in the county,” he said.
The governor also reshuffled CECs in the departments of Public Service and Lands where he moved James Gatuna, the CEC Public Service Department to Lands Department and Dr. Winnie Mwangi from Lands to Public Service.
The Chief Officer Angela Kioko was moved to the Education Department, Kennedy Kihato to Culture while Isaac Karoga moved to Health Services.
The current Transport Manager Daniel Mburu was redeployed to the Department of Health. The new acting Transport Manager will be Frida Waithera while the officer in charge of fuel will be John Githombo.
