Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has hit out at President Uhuru Kenyatta over his remarks regarding an attack on ODM leader Raila Odinga while he was visiting Uasin Gishu county on Friday, April 1, 2022.4.4
Addressing worshipers at the AIC Church in Pipeline, Nairobi County, on Sunday, April 3, the Head of State noted that the incident was unfortunate, especially at a time when the country gears toward the August 9 general elections
President Kenyatta called upon politicians to lead by example and condemn incidents of violence in the country.
"But most importantly, especially for us political leaders is we behave in a manner that allows our people to live in peace and to go about their business regardless of who sits in which position
"So ask ourselves, if you take a stone or a slasher to go and cut your friend instead of waiting for the next five years to elect your leader of choice, then you have lost direction," he stated.
Addressing a rally in Pipeline after attending the church service, the President equated the attack on Odinga to playing with fire, noting that had anything happened to the ODM leader, the country would have been rocked by violence.

"What if Raila was injured in that attack? Kenya would have been on fire right now and that is not what we want," he said.
Reacting to the President Kenyatta’s remarks, Murkomen accused the Head of State of selective criticism, arguing that he did not condemn violent acts against Deputy President William Ruto, but was quick to speak out when Odinga encountered violence in the campaign trail.
“When DP Ruto team was attacked in Kibera Uhuru said it’s ok for politicians to be stoned. When DP was attacked in Kenol and Embakasi he was silent. When DP was stoned in Kondele he ordered police to blame campaign Money. President is either coordinating attacks against DP or cheering it,” he said.
Meanwhile, police have so far arrested 14 suspects over the stoning of Raila’s entourage and chopper in Soy, Uasin Gishu county.
Three politicians; Soy MP Caleb Kositany, Kapseret’s Oscar Sudi and Uasin Gishu County Assembly Speaker David Kiplagat have already recorded statements with the DCI over the unfortunate incident.
