Nakuru youth advised to enroll for Vocational Training

The County Government of Nakuru is committed to ensuring youth get empowered through access to technical courses in the Vocational Training Centers (VTC) within their jurisdiction.
The County Executive Officer (CEC) for Education Zipporah Ngugi said many unemployed youths lack basic skills and a means of livelihood, which she noted had greatly contributed to crime and other social vices across the county.
She was speaking at the Ogilgei Vocational Training Center at Mosop ward in Rongai sub-county during the institution’s graduation ceremony.
Ms Ngugi said the VTC programs enable youth who are unable to continue with further education due to various challenges to gain meaningful skills for self-employment.
The skills gotten, she added also enable the youth to secure jobs in the government or private sectors as well as providing a pathway for career progression.
The CEC assured the young generation of continued support through innovative approaches to strengthening mastering of vocational training, and access to real practical skills to transform those who drop out of school or cannot proceed with higher education due to various reasons.
The MCA for Mosop Ward, who is also the majority leader at the Nakuru County Assembly Alex Langat said VTC focuses on the holistic development of youth into productive members of society as well as strengthening service delivery systems at the local level.
Langat said since Ogilgei Vocational Training Centre was established seven years ago, some 300 youths have benefitted adding the institution offered training in different trade lines, including driving, carpentry, garment making, solar and electricity installation and hairdressing.
