Nanyuki police launch investigation over murder of medic

Police in Nanyuki town, Laikipia County are investigating the murder of a clinical officer inside his rented house.

Nanyuki Location Chief Duncan Wachira said preliminary investigations pointed that John Mwaniki who previously worked as an Intern at the Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital was stabbed to death inside his rented house with the killers moving the body next to the main gate of the residential plot. 

“The deceased was stabbed several times in the chest and in the neck. There appeared to have been a struggle inside his one room located on the second floor of the five-storey building,” said the Chief.

There were trails of blood in the residential room and on the pavement and detectives who also questioned the tenants were trying to establish if the deceased was thrown to the ground or dragged to the pavement after the killing.

“We are yet to establish if he had any enemies and who they are. This is a puzzle the detectives will unravel on what happened and at what time,” said Wachira.

Residents who were treated with the bizarre incident said Mwaniki was set to begin work at the Segera Mission Hospital beginning June 1.

The caretaker of the building John Karinga who was not in during the 4: am incident said the deceased had lived in the apartment for several months and had indicated he would be moving out this month.

“I normally report to the building in the morning for general cleaning and other duties. Today morning as I was coming, I noticed a police vehicle and a crowd milling around the building and later learnt that one of my tenants had been killed,” said Karinga.

Surprisingly none of the 40 tenants raised an alarm during the wee hours’ morning commotion.

The body was moved to Nanyuki Hospital mortuary, awaiting autopsy.
