The Narok County intends to fence Enosupukia and Mau Forest to conserve the environment to contain the ravages of climate change in the country.
While addressing the members of the County Assembly, while issuing a report on the State of the County, Narok Governor Patrick Ntutu said the plans to fence the Enosupukia and Mau Forest were finalized to ensure that the water towers and the ecosystem were preserved.
“These efforts were bolstered by the recent National Tree Planting Day and I have committed to fencing of the Enosupukia and Mau Forest,” said Ntutu.
Ntutu said that the county government is working with various stakeholders to undertake measures that include tree planting, and grassroots sensitization among others to address environment conservation and climate change in the county.
Ntutu added that the county government has dedicated 3 percent of the budget to environmental and climate change initiatives.
Ntutu noted that they have instituted vital climate committees, undertaken comprehensive county-wide risk assessments, and formulated crucial policy documents that will address the pressing issues on the environment and climate change.
At the same time, the Governor focuses on the preservation of the Mara ecosystem and added that it has produced notable outcomes in the past years.
Ntutu said his admiration is collaborating with various stakeholders; local communities, wildlife organizations, and the private sector to work towards the sustainable management and protection of the ecosystem.
Ntutu also said they have witnessed a significant increase in tourism revenue that benefits the local communities, the environment, and wildlife conservation.
The county boss has echoed the county Assembly members for approving and passing the Maasai Mara National Reserve Management Plan and the Greater Mara Ecosystem Management Plans bills which have been gazetted by the Ministry of Tourism.
