The United Green Movement (UGM) party co-party leader Agostino Neto has urged residents of Nyanza to nurture the expansion of democratic space by embracing the proliferation of political parties in the region.

Neto said the UGM party had embarked on an aggressive grassroots mobilization of members to popularize itself ahead of the next general elections.

The call comes at a time when various political parties are putting their feet on the region considered to be a stronghold of Raila Odinga’s ODM party.

The party leader made the remarks today during a thanksgiving ceremony for the party supporters at Kanyangasi Trading Center, North Kabuoch ward in Ndhiwa Constituency.

He said UGM is a party whose agenda is anchored on development and environment conservation which will improve residents’ lives.

“As UGM, our main is objective is to improve the lives of the people through the promotion of development projects. We focus on environment conservation because that is the genesis of human life,” Neto said.

He said the party also focuses on gender equality in which each position in the party is co-held by a man and a woman.

He urged Nyanza residents to embrace UGM as a political party that would transform their lives. “Time has come for UGM to stamp its control across all regions to enable us to propel our transformation agenda more efficiently,” Neto added.

He told the local community that it was unwise to cling to one political party. “Strengthening this party will enable us to work with our political friends to bring development projects here,” he added.

UGM co-chairperson in Ndhiwa Constituency Dorcas Matunga urged residents to stand with the party as they target various elect seats in the 2027 election.

“We have started the popularization efforts to ensure we secure as many elective seats as possible in 2027 General election,” Matunga said.

Other political parties which are striving to make inroads in the county is the UDA party which has opened an office in Homa Bay town as it moves to strengthen the party in the region.

Neto commended President Ruto for various development he launched in Homa Bay County on Saturday saying the projects would improve lives of residents.

The former Ndhiwa MP promised to support Ruto in development agenda in the region.

“We are grateful for the projects the President launched in Homa Bay County. These projects will transform lives of the people. I will talk to him to come to Ndhiwa and talk to us,” Neto said.
