National Administration Officers in Nandi Central Sub-County, Emgwen Constituency have been praised for their relentless campaign to have 70 years plus elderly persons and other vulnerable groups registered for phase one Inua Jamii improved programme.

Sub-County Social Development Officer Lois Boit said the number of elderly persons reporting for registration is overwhelming due to a successful sensitisation drive led by NGAO network within the Sub-County villages.

Boit said that every day from Monday this week registration centers are full of elderly persons who brave chilly mornings in order to get their details captured.

She said that they are always forced to work till late hours so that all the elderly persons who have arrived are registered.

“I tell this will be a very successful campaign due to government’s proper coordinated messaging that has reached elders in remote villages,” Boit said.

The Social Development Officer revealed that they have registered close to 1000 elderly persons since the exercise kicked off on 1st this month.

She noted that her registration team from the Department of Social Protection office are continuing with the exercise and uses the shortest time possible to capture the details of eligible elders and other vulnerable persons.

On his part, Nandi Central Deputy County Commissioner Saidi Shaban reiterated that NGAO officers at the grassroots are under firm instructions to ensure all elderly persons above 70 years availed themselves for mass registrations.

The DCC added that poor households taking care of the orphans, vulnerable children and persons with severe disability are advised to avail themselves at location registration centers to benefit from the government’s aggressive improved Inua Jamii Programme.

He directed that persons taking care of children and persons with severe disabilities should ensure the eligible groups are supported reach the registration centers to have their details captured.

Saidi expressed confidence that the NGAO campaign will ensure the elderly above 70 years in Nandi Central and the entire Nandi County and the eligible vulnerable groups are registered before the end of the exercise.

The government is committed to increase the number of Inua Jamii programme beneficiaries from the 1.2 to 2.5 million in the next three years.

In the first phase which began on 1st September this month, the government is targeting to register 500,000 elderly persons across the country.
