Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has asked Kenyans to attend the Agricultural Society of Kenya Central Kenya Show at Kabiru-ini showground in Nyeri County from Wednesday September 13 to 16 this year so as to learn the new technology in farming and value addition in order to boost food security.
Speaking at Kabiruini Showground today, the Governor said the event will allow farmers and other stakeholders to showcase innovations, skills, and knowledge in various fields.
“This will be a good opportunity to view, learn and enjoy; it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and you can also visit our tourist destinations during your stay in Nyeri County,” added the Governor who will be the Chief Guest on Thursday.
Speaking at the same occasion, Agricultural Society of Kenya Chief Executive Officer Batram Muthoka promised a wide range of lessons in various and unique climate-smart technologies at the show.
The CEO said that farmers will be taken through a unique water-saving technology when engaging in agribusiness to save on production costs as they maximize profits.
He also said that farmers will been lightened on drought-resistant seeds that are favourable to the ever-changing weather patterns as a result of climate change.
Branch Chairman Patrick Karinga said preparations are complete for the event, and the theme of this year’s Show is Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture and Trade Initiatives for Sustainable Economic Growth.
Karinga said the theme aligns with Kenya’s resolve to institute better farming practices in a bid to increase productivity despite the vagaries of Climate Change, adding that it has so far attracted over 110 exhibitors.
The Chairman noted that people are passionate about agriculture hence the rising enrollment noting that the number of exhibitors could even go higher by the closing date.
Some of the new exhibitors include the Public Procurement Authority Kenya, Presidency Kenya Roads Board, Chloride Exide, and Kieni Dairy Products Limited (KDPL).
Other exhibitors include institutions of higher learning, health and hospitality institutions, sectors of agriculture, livestock, fisheries, trade, manufacturing, NGOs, CBOs, youth enterprises, and women-based groups, among others.
Kahiga is expected to be the Chief Guest Thursday. The County Government of Nyeri has been supporting the show throughout the years. Earlier, it was a beehive of activities at the show as exhibitors prepared to showcase their work at the stands in the show.
Both the County Government of Nyeri and the National Government have joined forces in the preparations ahead of the big event and security has also been beefed up in and outside of the showground.
The show organizers have described this as a massive display of interest compared to the exhibitors who had enrolled during the same period last year.
