Nyong'o's 'bitter' reaction as goons vandalize Sh37 million funeral home
Kisumu governor Anyang' Nyong'o on Thursday evenning reacted angrily to vandalism and looting spree witnessed in Kisumu during ant-government protests.
'Goons' disguised as Azimio La Umoja One Kenya demonstrators looted a Supermarket and vandalized Sh37 million funeral home, which was launched by the governor on Tuesday this week.
The morgue is situated at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Refferal Hospital (JOOTRH), famously known as Russia, along the Kisumu -Kakamega road.
Governor Nyong'o in a statement condemned the destruction of the multi-million ultra-modern funeral home.
"Goons posing as protesters broke down a gate, damaged and looted expensive morgue equipment," he said.
The county boss described the attack on the new funeral home as barbaric, wondering why police did not respond in time to stop the destruction.
"I wonder why the police did not protect the facility from the gang which also carted away computers and other valuable equipment. The police should hunt and arrest the criminals."
The new facility was vandalized as police battled protesters in various parts of Kisumu, to prevent them from accessing the Central Business District (CBD).
He also condemned the looting of a supermarket, shops and many other private businesses.
On Wednesday, governor Nyong'o suspended demos in Kisumu, after seemingly having foresaw the destructions the protests would bring to the Lakeside City.
The suspension was however lifted some hours later, after Azimio leader Raila Odinga teemed the move as madness.
Besides the funeral home, the governor also launched two other projects at JOOTRH, this week.
The others being a doctors call suite and a refurbished 100 capacity medical ward.
Construction of the medical ward cost Sh26 million while the doctors suite took up Sh12 million.
