ODPP launches new strategic plan
By Peter Ochieng
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on Wednesday presided over the launch of the Office of Director of Prosecutions (ODPP) Strategic Plan 2023-2027.
The plan aligns with Kenya's long-term development strategy as outlined in the Vision 2030, the Medium-Term Plan I, and the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
It also reflects ODPP’s renewed commitment to ensuring a just, independent and people-centered prosecution service.
Speaking at the event, Kindiki said no single institution can deliver without the collaborative, cooperative, facilitative and friendly support and relationship with all other arms of government and institutions.
“In exercise of their decisional, administrative, financial and budgetary, and operational autonomy, independent institutions and offices have a duty to embrace interdependence, collaboration and cooperation with different institutions across government to realize the mission for which they were established in the spirit of interconnectedness,” he stated.
“We must shed off the pursuit for distinction, difference and autonomy, and instead pursue collegial engagements and collaborative frameworks across all arms, and anchors of government including Independent Offices, Constitutional Commissions, and county governments - operating within the spirit of delivering as one,” he added.
The Strategic Plan 2023-2027 serves as a comprehensive roadmap that outlines our vision, mission, goals, objectives, and key initiatives for the coming years.
Based on a thorough review of the internal and external environments as well as stakeholder expectations, the strategy is intended to guide our efforts to improve the effectiveness, efficiency and performance of the prosecutorial mandate.
Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Renson Igonga reiterated that the ODPP will vigorously undertake prosecution of corruption and economic crimes cases.
“I commit to prosecute and expedite cases relating to murder, especially femicide and gross violation of human rights by law enforcement authorities against individuals or groups amongst others,” he said.
The Strategic Plan 2023-2027 was produced through the support of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), with the financial support of the European Union in Kenya.
