Orengo dares Ruto over his economic plans

Siaya governor James Orengo has challenged President William Ruto to tell Kenyans the plans he had to improve the economy instead of perennially lamenting over alleged empty coffers at the national treasury.

Orengo said Kenyans were tired of blames being heaped on former President Uhuru Kenyatta and his government for the high cost of living while those in power failed to tell citizens the steps they are taking to improve the situation.

He was speaking at the Siaya county headquarters today when he met community health volunteers from Alego / Usonga constituency.

Orengo said that governments the world over borrow and Kenya is not an exception and the public must not be bombarded with propaganda that it is the debts that were making life difficult.

“Any government in power must look for ways to cushion its citizens against the effects of debts” Orengo said adding that even if the past regimes borrowed, it was the responsibility of those in power to ensure that citizens do not suffer.

He said that it was ironical that whereas the top leadership was crying of empty coffers, both the president, his deputy and top government officials were ever making foreign and domestic trips. “Where do they get money for such trips from,” posed Orengo.

Orengo further questioned the rationale of appointing close to 50 Chief Administrative Secretaries when the country was broke.

He called on the government to respect retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, adding that it was wrong for the government to send police to tear gas the immediate former Commander in Chief of the Defence Forces.
