Administrators in Nyahururu Sub County have impounded and destroyed over 10,000 litres of illicit brews at preparation stage, deep inside the Marmanet forest river.

During the over eight-hours operation, the officers had to grapple with a fair share of challenges among them rough terrain and a herd of elephants that was grazing next to where most of the brew operate.

However, this did not dampen the officers who had vowed to fight on until they accomplish their mission, which is a clarion call by the government through Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to fight illicit brews, alcoholism, drugs, and substance abuse in the central region.

Nyahururu Division Assistant County Commissioner, Vicky Munyasia said the brew locally known as Kangara had infiltrated the area, regretting the effects it had on the health of the users.

Munyasia, who led a team of police officers and chiefs and sub-chiefs in destroying the apparatus, regretted that the brewers, who had been flushed out of Thompsons Falls, a month ago had set base at Judea area, further propagating the vise.

She said that the brew had been prepared from chick mash and rotten maize which was a great threat to the health of the users.

She noted that the government was committed to fighting the vice 100 percent for the good of the people.

We have unearthed over 10,000 litres of alcohol being prepared here and we have managed to destroy their merchandise and their temporary kitchens despite being deterred by elephants that were charging on us."

We ask the judiciary to punish the perpetrators by increasing the fine and the jail term. We have vowed to fight this vice once and for all and we will not relent until we sober up our villages,” said Munyasia.

Area Senior Chief Joseph Muraya said the team was tipped at night that the brewer had relocated to the area, prompting the raid very early in the morning.

He called on the youths, men, and women to avoid the brews that have continued to wipe generations.

The incident comes in the wake of the fight against illicit and counterfeit alcoholic drinks, led by the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and majorly targeting to end the menace in the Mt. Kenya region.
