Police in Kisumu County seized an assortment of crude weapons from the house of a man suspected to be behind the killing of a General Service Unit (GSU) officer in Manyatta, a week ago.
The officer, Calvins Omondi, who until his demise was based in Turkwel, Turkana County died after being stabbed by unknown assailants in Manyatta, on Sunday, August 11, 2024. A friend he was with was also attacked and is nursing stab wounds.
Addressing the press at the Kondele Police Station on Saturday, Kizito Mutoro, Kisumu County Police Commander said they raided the suspects’ house after a tip off from members of the public.
The police did not nab the suspect as he was reportedly not at home at the time of the raid. Mutoro said the items recovered include, swords, police combat boots, arrows, several National Identification (ID) cards and rungus.
He added that other dangerous items were not displayed due to the number of members of the public present.
“The items recovered are here displayed to the public but there are some which we have not revealed,” said the police commander. He said that the house police raided is among the several rented houses being used by suspects to plan and execute their sinister motives.
“I can assure you, by tomorrow morning, we will have the suspect arrested,” Mutoro added as he assured members of the public that they are closing in on a suspect.
On Sunday night, Omondi was killed in Manyatta, leading to a manhunt of the suspects behind the killing.
One suspect has already been arrested and is in police custody, awaiting arraignment in court on Monday.
