Administration Police officers in Athi River township, Machakos county, united to plant 1000 trees at the Athi River AP line to show solidarity and mark the end of Easter holidays.
Speaking to the media on Monday, Athi River Chief Inspector of Police Mohammed Nur Ibrahim said that planting trees was a way of showing solidarity among the police fraternity and improving environmental conservation.
Mohammed said that the exercise was also in line with the government directive of planting 15 billion trees across the country by 2032.
He added that the weather is appropriate for planting trees and also farming to neutralize the effects of drought experienced in the previous months.
“With the adequate rains being experienced in the area, we are optimistic that all trees will grow well and by next year, this place will be green,” added Mohammed.
Mohammed pointed out that since all the officers were living within the AP line in Athi River, the trees would be well taken care of by the officers voluntarily.
He urged the officers to encourage their families to plant more trees to maintain the environment, embrace team work and security of the citizens in the area.
