Smile Women of Africa in Collaboration with the Day of Girls organizations on Wednesday donated 156 sanitary towels to girls at Mayenje Primary School in Busia Sub County.

The kits consisting of 100 reusable sanitary towels are aimed at assisting the vulnerable beneficiaries to stay in school even during their menses.

Speaking to KNA during the distribution of the items, the team leader for Day of girls Lonah Wanyama said that there was need to break the silence on mensuration and urged men to help girls to undergo the process with dignity and without stigma.

"Today we have brought 100 smart starter kits, the reusable sanitary towels for the girls in Mayenje Primary school," she said, adding that their main aim is to ensure that the girls stay in school.

Wanyama urged the girls not to feel shy while undergoing menstruation adding that no girl should miss school or die because of mensuration

She appealed to male parents to support their daughters and their wives so that they know that menstruation is natural.

Beatrice Juma, the Director of Smile Women of Africa noted that a number of girls miss out of school due to lack of sanitary towels.

Juma noted that the school administration had had difficulty as a number of girls could approach them requesting for the precious commodity.

"We have brought 156 kits, 20 from Grace Agenda in Nairobi, 36 from individual support and 100 reusable kits from Days for Girls,” she said.

She urged other interested partners to come out and support the noble course not only in Mayenje ward but across Busia County.
