Narok County Criminal Investigation department has warned residents against giving money in order to receive services from government offices.

The County Criminal Investigating Officer (CCIO) Ethaiba Mwenda advised the public that if they had to give any money to get services from a government official, they should be given an official receipt.

He lamented the increasing cases of bribery among the civil servants who demand money so as to serve the members of the public.

“It is your right to be served in any government office as you wish. The services that need money should be accompanied by an official receipt. Anyone who gives money for a bribe to get government services commits a crime,” he reiterated.

The Officer spoke at Dikirr area in Trans Mara East Sub County during a public baraza organised by the County Commissioner Isaac Masinde and attended by various heads of department in the county.

The CCIO asked residents to report to his office when a government official fails to serve them as required, reiterating that corrupt civil servants will be arrested and prosecuted in court of law.

“I don’t mind the position you hold in society. As long as there is evidence of a civil servant soliciting for money to offer services to wananchi, I will ensure they are arrested and prosecuted

The warning comes at a time when a Narok County Government Public Service Board Commissioner Paul Rotich is facing criminal charges for allegedly receiving a bribe in order to offer employment to an innocent youth.

Rotich who hails from Trans Mara East Sub County was arraigned before Narok Resident Magistrate Daniel Ngayo where he was released on a bond of Sh100, 000.
