Ruto wants opposition to engage in constructive talks
By Peter Ochieng
President William Ruto is calling on the opposition to put the interests of Kenyans above anything else.
The Head of State says the opposition, led by Raila Odinga should engage in constructive talks, spearheaded by the Parliamentary bipartisan committee.
Speaking in Embakasi Nairobi on Friday when he commissioned the Grain Bulk facilities, Ruto challenged the Odinga led faction to consider engaging the government constructively in dialogue in order to address their grievances.
“I want to ask those in opposition to work with the government for the sake of Kenyans. There is need for constructive engagements to avoid unnecessary destruction of property because of demonstrations," said Ruto.
He stated that the Country's economy is too fragile to afford another round of opposition protests.
“Leaders should not trample on the interests of millions of Kenyans while seeking their own interests,” he added.
His sentiments came on the backdrop of Azimio La Umoja One Kenya having pulled out of the bipartisan talks, until further notice.
Azimio had contested the inclusion of Eldas MP Aden Keynan as a member of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance in the bipartisan committee.
Keynan is a member of the Jubilee Party, which is affiliated to Azimio.
Kenya Kwanza camp has since agreed to recall Keynan from the bipartisan panel.
On the flip side, Kenya Kwanza has contested the lining up of Pokot South MP David Pkosing as a member of Azimio in the committee.
Odinga however on Friday insisted that Pkosing is in the committee to stay, because he was elected under Azimio.
