The 2024 edition of Safari Sevens has landed a major financial boost.
The tournament, organised by the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) will be funded to a tune of Sh22 million, by East Africa Breweries Limited (EABL), Tusker Kenya brand.
The collaboration was sealed at the EABL headquarters, in Ruaraka, Nairobi on Tuesday.
Kenya Breweries Limited Managing Director, Mark Ocitti, expressed his appreciation for the enduring partnership between Tusker and the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU), which dates back to the inaugural Safari Sevens in 1996.
He emphasised the importance of this collaboration in supporting the growth of rugby, from grassroots to professional levels.
“This relationship is pivotal in nurturing the game at all stages from the grassroot level to professional levels,” he said.
On his part, KRU Vice Chairman, Moses Ndale, extended his gratitude to Tusker for the continued support, urging the brand to explore further opportunities with the union.
“This partnership has not only stood the test of time, but also plays a significant role in the development of rugby across the country,” he added.
This year’s Safari Sevens, will take place from October 11th to 13th at the Machakos Kenyatta Stadium, being held outside Nairobi for the first time.
KRU Director Harriet Okatch said the move promises to deliver a fresh and enriching experience for fans, players, and the broader rugby community, while also showcasing Kenya on a global stage.
