The United Democratic Alliance nominated Senator Veronica Maina defended the Finance Bill 2023, stating that it has favoured all Kenyans.

Senator Maina made it clear that the bill has struck a balance between the interests of the citizens and the revenue of the government.

In an interview with Citizen TV on Thursday night, the nominated Senator stated that the bill has a lot of benefits for Kenyans once passed.

She accused opposition leaders of being solely focused on the negative aspects of the bill and ignoring the positive ones.

The former UDA Secretary General also urged for an understanding of the current situation in the country, which is not unique to Kenya but is a worldwide issue.

Furthermore, she accused Azimio of misleading the public about the Finance Bill 2023.

"The cost of living has gone up everywhere. I have traveled to a few places, and the cost of goods and travel has skyrocketed, not just in Kenya," she argued.

The senator admitted that the opposition is using the bill as a weapon for frustration, thus posing a great challenge.

Moreover, Maina said the bill would secure Kenyans from budget constraints as they will see reductions in rental income.

She explained that the bill would enable Kenyans to recover their input from the Value Added Tax (VAT).

"The bill is balanced between what is asked of the citizen and what is paid to the government; it is a balancing act in that finance bill," stated the Senator.

She called on Azimio leaders to have a candid conversation with Kenyans on the necessity of the government having some resources instead of merely criticizing.

The Finance Bill 2023 report is set to go through its second reading after being tabled.
