Kenya Shujaa managed to retain the Safari 7s title after a 19-0 win over Samurai at RFUEA Ground on Sunday, November 19, 2023.

Shujaa proved their formidable form going Unbeaten in the two day tournament to whitewash their ultimate rivals in a showdown witnessed by former prime minister Raila Odinga.

It was a pay back victory for shujaa who had lost to Samurai in the 2019 Rugby sevens Finals.

Meanwhile, the man of the day, Patrick Odongo, who has been at the centre of Shujaa’s succesful campaign, opened the scoring with his first try of the duel.

The home side did not add more tries and went to the break with the lead secured from Odongo’s effort.

When the second half began, an overload set Kevin Wekesa through for a try, which meant the lead was extended to 12-0. Shujaa took advantage of their numerical strength, given that the opponents were reduced to six men.

Odongo was the scorer of the final try, which eventually meant that they were the Safari 7s champions again.

Shujaa had defeated German 19-5 in thr Semi-finals to book their ticket against Samurai in the Finals.

Meanwhile, Uganda Lady Cranes are the champions in the women’s category after a 15-12 win over Kenya Lionesses.
