Tension remained high at Busia OSBP after a lorry suspected to be carrying guns and crude weapons was intercepted at the facility.
Speaking to the press at the venue on Tuesday, Budalangi MP Raphael Wanjala said that the vehicle had no clearance documents.
“The container was escorted by Ugandan security and received by a Kenyan police officer who escaped,” he said.
Wanjala added that the trailer had no seals urging KRA officers to open the truck so that its contents can be known.
“We have therefore urged the officers to ensure that the lorry does not leave,” he said.
Peter Ojera, a clearing and forwarding agent at Busia OSBP said that they are scared about the contents of the lorry, especially with the looming countrywide demonstrations slated for tomorrow.
“We are worried that the weapons might be used to kill innocent Kenyans,” he said, adding that locals must know the vehicle’s contents.
The agents urged the KRA leadership to open the consignment in order to reduce tension at the facility.
However, there was a heavy presence of armed security officers guarding the lorry at the facility.
