The county government of Uasin Gishu in conjunction with the Department of Finance and Economic Planning held a stakeholder’s sensitization meeting on Revenue Enhancement with the business community on the provision of new and improved services.
Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii, while addressing the stakeholders at Eka Hotel Eldoret, noted that one of his primary actions was to engage with the business community and advocate for the consolidation of the county services into a unified one-stop-shop approach.
“I am delighted to report that this proposition has been successfully implemented, streamlining operations across all sectors,” he said.
“As a county, we fully acknowledge our ongoing relationship and partnership with the business community and we are committed to ensuring the facilitation of an environment conducive to conducting business seamlessly,” said the Governor.
“Addressing the persistent issue of street children is a priority for my administration and trust you I have witnessed the positive transformation in our rapidly growing town,” noted Bii.
He further said that as the town progresses, several development initiatives have been outlined including the enhancement of infrastructure through tarmacking, a focus on upgrading drainage and sewerage systems, and the installation of street lights in both the town and residential areas, all aimed at bolstering the security of the residents.
“In our continuous effort to improve our processes, my administration has considered your concerns outlined in the Finance Bill regarding various taxes and as a responsive administration, we have revised several fees, offering more flexibility,” noted Bii.
He said that one of the significant achievements is the impending establishment of the County Aggregation and Industrial Parks (CAIP) in Cherunya which has been approved and the design phase for a state-of-the-art iconic market has been completed.
Bii noted that the anticipated projects that include the establishment of an Export Processing Zone (EPZ), with a designated parcel of land identified in Moiben, and the ambitious Eldoret City Railway for the county will directly or indirectly impact all of us.
“To facilitate efficiency, my administration has introduced a new revenue system called 'Sisibo Pay ' This system offers multiple payment channels, including bank, Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS), Visa card, or mobile phone payments.
“It provides notifications before vehicle clamping, streamlines reconciliation within 24 hours, and operates on a purely cashless basis and it is capable of integration with other systems, such as the Hospital Management Integration System,” he noted.
“By dialing an Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) *764#, on your mobile phone, you can easily access these services, regardless of your device including the famous Kaduda because of the Global System for Mobile (GSM) solution that integrates seamlessly,” said he Governor.
“My administration is currently mapping all businesses using Geographic Information System (GIS) and the new system will aid in revenue projection while also simplifying processes for payment,” he said.
“We encourage land owners to pay for their land rates in time so that they can access other services and so that they cannot inconvenience their tenants when applying for business licenses because the business permits are linked to payment of land rates in properties on which they sit,” said Bii.
He further noted that other permits that are for reach include fire, public health, food hygiene certificates, betting control, as well as signboard and advertising permits.
“While striving to enhance services to meet your needs, I call on the business community for compliance support,” said Bii.
