Uasin Gishu set to launch ECDE learners milk feeding programme

Uasin Gishu county department of Education has set in motion preparations for the launch of the County milk feeding programme targeting all its Early Child Development Education, ECDE, Centres.

 Speaking during a meeting with 44 ECDE coordinators and County Education officers, the county executive committee member (CECM) for Education Dr Janeth Kosgei said they plan to launch the programme by May 23, 2023.

 Dr Kosgei said the programme is one of the flagship projects by Governor Jonathan Bii’s administration to ensure the needs of ECDE pupils are fully catered for.

 “We appreciate our Governor for focusing on ECDEs, he has seriously invested in early childhood learning, and dedicated a lot of resources and it started with him confirming all the ECDE teachers,” said the CECM who was flanked by the county director of Education Shadrack Morogo.

 “We are tentatively planning to launch the programme on May 23rd, 2023. We have been working well in preparations for the event and our milk is from KCC,” she added.

She further noted that the Department was currently working on data collection in a bid to ensure all the ECDE centres are ready to handle the milk.

According to the County Executive, the milk feeding programme targeting 40,000 ECDE learners will in the long run lead to increased enrolment and retention of ECDE pupils in school.
