Uganda: 25 people killed in a militant attack
By Peter Ochieng
Uganda is in mourning.
At least 25 people died at a school in the Western part of the East Africa nation, after a terrorist attack on a school by rebels linked to the Islamic group, on Friday night.
Police in Uganda say eight more people are in a critical condition, after the attack on Lhubiriha Secondary School.
Authorities maintain that the attack was carried out by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), believed to be a Ugandan group based in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
"So far 25 bodies have been recovered from the school," Uganda national police spokesperson Fred Enanga said in a statement on Saturday.
The attack was characterised by burning of a dormitory at the school, and looting of a food store.
Reports indicate that a number of students remain unaccounted for, with as fears mount over possible abduction.
ADF group was formed in the 1990's.
Uganda President Yoweri Museveni had not issued a statement on the attack, at the time of going to press.
